McMANN
WINS FIRST LATE MODEL FEATURE OF SEASON AT PROCTOR
Lavato Wins Two Pure Stock Features In Same Night

Proctor,
MN - Tim McMann professed a lessening of confidence as he
had not won a WISSOTA Late Model feature this season at the
Proctor Speedway. The veteran driver gave it a boost Sunday night by leading
every lap of the 20 lap run.
At the green flag McMann streaked away from pole sitter
Paul Wrazidlo while Mike Meger and John Massingill battled for
third followed by Steve Vesel in fifth.
Early
on in the event, last week’s winner Darrell Nelson suffered a
flat right rear that put him in the pits with a 14th place
finish. McMann pulled to a near straight away lead over Wrazidlo who
was beginning to feel a slight bit of pressure from Massingill.
The skirmish for sixth heated up as Kelly Estey, Don Copp,
Harry Hanson and Ryan Aho contested the spot.
Copp won out but was spun in turn two and sent to the
back.
At
the restart Copp drove the #22 into the pits out of contention.
The caution flag, which would prove to be the only one of
the event, brought Wrazidlo to McMann's back bumper, and at the
green Wrazidlo dove low in the first turn in an effort to grab
the lead. He was
unsuccessful as McMann again pulled away to the lead. Hanson was
able to use the bottom of the track and at the checkered flag
had moved from the 15th starting spot to third.
McMann had little trouble taking the win over Wrazidlo,
Hanson, Massingill and Vesel.
Jason
Miller squeezed out his first Modified feature win of the season
at the Proctor Speedway. Emulating
McMann he drove from the outside of the front row to the lead
and the eventual win in the 15 lap feature.
Hounding Miller for nearly the entire event was a very
fast Jeff Hart who came from the outside of row four quickly to
contest Miller at the restart of each of the three caution
flags. Each time Miller was able to put some daylight, if only a
sliver, between himself and Hart.
Hart would drive to the bottom in an effort to get by
Miller and, on the final circuit, this move left him open for a
quickly moving Kelly Estey who took second.
Miller went on to the win over Estey, Hart, Darrell
Nelson and 16-year-old Jamie Davis who was in only his second
appearance at the speedway.
Jay
Kuras's first ever Super Stock feature win came up short at the
scales by a reported three pounds.
Kuras took the lead from the favored outside pole and
managed to fight off all challenges after each of the four
caution flags. Fourth
row starting Chad Finckbone in a rare appearance at the
speedway, reaped the benefit of Kuras's misfortune moving up to
the win from his second place finish.
That moved Scott Lawrence to second, Joe Oliver to third
from 17th and Derrick Vesel rounded out the top five.
Again
the outside of the front row worked to the advantage as Duane
Dunbar grabbed the lead and was able to fend off all comers for
his first Midwest Modified feature win.
Dunbar streaked away to a big lead but two caution flags
brought the field up to him.
He was involved in the first caution flag when he tapped
a lapped car.
Contenders
at this point included Tyler Hynnes, MarkAnderson, Dick Peterson
and pole sitter Greg Carlson.
Hynnes tried to make the inside work as did Anderson but
to no avail as Dunbar survived another caution flag brought out
when Brock McCarthy and Josh Loucks tangled in turn three.
At this point Peterson suffered a flat left front tire
but with just a couple laps to go elected to soldier on and was
able to hold on for fourth.
Dunbar was followed across the line by Anderson, Hynnes,
Peterson and Carlson.
Nick
Lavato won his second Pure Stock feature of the night running
away from Al McDougall to post the victory only one caution flag
marred the run as jim McLellan hooked Stacy McKinnon's bumper
spinning her in turn one. Nearly
everyone ran the top groove the last half of the race as Lavato
dominated over McDougall, point leader Gary Campbell, Rick
Wilhelm and Jon McKinnon who was forced to qualify through the B
main after losing the left front wheel in his heat.
The
make up main event for the WISSOTA Super Stocks featured a
one-week caution period and was restarted on lap 10 of 15 in a
single file order. Johnny
Erickson took up right where he left off leading the final 10
laps over Scott Lawrence, Jay Kuras, Mike Bellefeuille and Paul
Schultz.
The
Midwest Modified make up feature was won by D J Severin for his
first ever feature win. Jeff
Lien, Dick Peterson, Mark Kangas and Greg Carlson rounded out
the top five.
Also
on the program were the Northern Vintage Stock Cars. George Shields was the winner of the single 10 car heat while
Al Stettner was the feature winner over Jerry Gamer and Gary
Whipple.
