Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn extended his Late Model point lead with his fourth
feature win of the season Sunday night at the Proctor Speedway. Starting from the pole position
Nelson took the lead as Ryan Aho followed him through to second. Steve vesel, Tim McMann
and Ed Wakefield were in the top five but, with one circuit of 20 completed John Massingill got
crossed up in turn two stacking up Steve Roseen, Jeff Broking, Don Copp, Paul Wrazidlo and
Harry Hanson. All except Wrazidlo were able to continue as Massingill was sent to the rear for
the incident. One more lap was completed under green when Aho spun off turn four and was
tagged by Wakefield. Aho joined Massingill as tail end Charlie at the restart. That incident moved
Roseen up in the order to fifth as the race went under the green flag. Nelson continued to lead
Vesel while Wakefield and McMann dueled for third. Vesel made a run at Nelson for the lead but
Nelson was able to hold him off. Wakefield took the third spot at the half way point but slid off
turn three bringing out the caution flag. At the green Nelson led Vesel, Roseen, McMann and Aho
who had cracked the top five. Nelson was uncontested the rest of the way winning feature number
four at the speedway for the season. Vesel finished second while McMann took third back from
Roseen while Aho retained the fifth spot.
Steve Arpin blasted into the lead from the pole in the WISSOTA Modified feature trailed by
Jason Miller, Darrell Nelson, Scott Greer and Jeff Lien. As Arpin expanded his advantage over
Miller, Lien got by Greer into fourth. Duane Dale moved from eighth to fifth as Arpin streaked
away and the field quickly strung out. Lien slipped off the back stretch giving up fifth to Greer as
the first and only caution flag of the event appeared for a tangle between Ken Hron and John
Carter off turn four. At the green flag Arpin continued to pull away and grabbed his first feature
checkered flag of the season at the speedway. Miller, Nelson, Dale and Greer rounded out the top
five.
Ryan Aho was the WISSOTA Super Stock feature winner but it was newcomer and pole
sitter Steve Van House that provided the fireworks. On the first lap he got shoved around off turn
two, turned sideways and performed a snap roll in front of half the field. Quick reflexes by the
following drivers avoided any collision with the disabled racer and Van House was unhurt in the
incident. At the green flag a fast moving Ryan Aho took the point and would not give it up
despite two caution flags slowing the action. With just a few circuits in a tangle on the front
stretch shoved Donnie Lofdahl into the wall bringing out the first caution flag. At the green Aho
widened his lead over Jeff Forseen, Eric Nelson, Derrick Vesel and Nick Musel. Point leader
Scott Lawrence hovered just outside the top five after starting 11th. As Aho pulled away Forseen,
Nelson, Musel and Lawrence staged a battle royal for second and the inevitable happened when
four cars try to inhabit the same space...squeeze play and a big tangle that saw Forseen and
Lawrence enter the pits for cosmetic deconstruction. Both returned and were sent to the rear with
Lawrence finishing 11th and Forseen 12th after fifth place finisher Vesel scaled in light. Aho went
on to an easy victory over Nelson, Musel Chad Finckbone (from 12th) and Paul Schultz (from
10th).
Dan Olson was the early leader in the Midwest Modified feature from the outside of the front
row. Jody Bellefeuille, Justin Jones, Bob Chesley and pole sitter Brad Anderson. The caution flew
for Mark Kangas who backed off turn four, and when racing resumed with Olson leading, Jones
moved to second ahead of Bellefeuille. Olson pulled away and had a wide margin over Jones
when the caution again appeared when D J Severin spun in turn one. A restart was what Jones
was waiting for and shot by Olson to the lead and his second victory of his career in a Midwest
Modified. Olson, Bob Chesley, Loren Inman, Jr and Bellefeuille finished in the top five.
Nick Lavato won his fourth feature of the season in the Pure Stock division in an event that
saw a red flag for Mark Carlson's nasty multiple roll over off turn four into the infield and Glen
Dammer's roll over in turn one after losing the right rear wheel. Lavato took the lead at the green
flag from the pole and held off Ricky Davis and two time winner Jim McLellan to take the win. Al
Rapp (from 15th) and Scott Larsen (from 10th) finished in the top five. It was a sweep for Lavato. Photo
