Proctor, MN-Five new winners made their way into the
Proctor Speedway Victory Lane Sunday night June 20th on D.A.R.E.
Night and Kids Bike races night. Blazing from the
second row Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing, MN survived a single
caution flag to take his first WISSOTA Late Model main of the
season. Dan Wheeler started 9th in the Midwest Modified feature
and made his way to the win in the 15 lap main event. Jeff
Hart started from the outside of the front row and held off Jeff
Lien at the checkered flag for the Modified win. Rick
Rivord grabbed the lead from the outside of the front row and
won his first Super Stock feature at the Proctor Speedway.
Rick Kesty was the winner of the Pure Stock feature in a close
battle with Tom Morinville.
Provinzino shot past the front row starters from the second
hole outside and rocketed to a huge lead in the early
going. No caution flags slowed the action as Provinzino
won his first Late Model feature of the season at the Proctor
Speedway. Darrell Nelson and Kelly Estey dueled for second
for several laps before Nelson secured the spot. At the
half way point Provinzino had nearly a straight away lead but
Nelson began to cut into it as the laps wore down. Estey
was further back in third while Roseen and Harry Hanson battled
for fourth. Provinzino held on to the lead for the win
with Nelson, Estey, Roseen and Hanson in the top five.
The WISSOTA Modifieds had a more difficult time of it in
their feature as five caution flags slowed the action.
Outside pole sitter Jeff Hart of Hibbing, MN took the lead at
the outset but was pressured by Jeff Lien for a number of
laps. Hart was able to hold off Lien on restarts until
Lien got a strong jump off turn four and took the top spot away
from Hart. Hart stayed with Lien and was able to retake
the lead and hold it to the checkered flag for his first win
this season. Those two were not alone at the point,
however as Defending track champion Darrell Nelson made his
presence felt as did pole sitter Dave Mass until Mass pulled
into the infield and out of the event. Nelson, who had
started way back in 10th joined the front battle but could get
no closer than third. Kelly Estey was also in contention
starting ninth and battling with Nelson through the field until
he suffered a flat tire. A convenient caution period
allowed him to make the change and rejoin the field only to
suffer yet another flat finishing 13th. Hart took the win
over Lien, Nelson, Jason Miller who was also in the hunt
throughout the race and Jodi Olson in fifth.
Rick Rivord of Superior got the jump from the outside of the
front row to take the lead from pole sitter Mike Bellefeuille
with Joe Oliver, Eric Nelson and Jay Kuras in the top five in
the early going. Jay Kintner was a fast mover and took the
measure of Kuras and Oliver to slip into third while further
back the sixth row consisting of Dave Mass and Scott Lawrence
were racing each other and the pack on the way to the
front. Mass worked his way by Kintner and Bellefeuille
into second but had nothing for Rivord who rolled to the
win. Bellefeuille, Kintner and Lawrence rounded out the
top five.
Dan Wheeler wheeled his way from the inside of the fifth row
to take the Midwest Modified feature win. Wheeler has been
knocking on the door since opening night and finally stepped
through into victory circle. Jeremy Hall led in the early
going Darren Brown, Monty Hall, Mark Kangas and Troy Jordan in a
tight battle. The event was slowed by three caution flags
keeping the pack close. Wheeler worked his way forward and
took the point in the late going for the win. M Hall, Jordan,
Terry Inman and Loren Inman, Jr rounded out the top five.
Rick Kesty managed to stay out front after a tight battle
with Tom Morinville at the head of the Pure Stock field.
Kesty took the lead after the third of four caution flags and
held off Morinville, 8th starting Ricky Davis, 15th starting Jim
McClellan and Tony Ciurleo for his first win.
