CRYDERMAN TAKES FLAG TO FLAG LM WIN AT PROCTOR
By Jerry O'Brien 6-27-04 Proctor, MN

Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay won the 20 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature at the Proctor Speedway Sunday night June 27th. Starting from the pole, Cryderman out dragged front row mate Harry Hanson into the first turn and survived two caution flags to take the flag to flag victory. Hanson tried the outside in the third turn in an effort to steal the win from Cryderman but Cryderman was too strong off the bottom and opened up a car length on the straights. Cloquet's Mike Meger turned in a strong run to finish third with Tim McMann and Kevin Carlson rounding out the top five.
Monty Hall pulled off a last corner pass on race long leader Kelly Checkalski to take the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event. The event was marred by two caution flags, the first for the spin of Dan Wheeler in turn two. The second was a prolonged stoppage when Loren Inman jr's drive shaft came out. It took rescue workers several minutes to remove Inman who reportedly suffered an upper leg injury. He was taken to the hospital and no word was available on his condition at press time. Troy Jordan, Justin Jones and Nick Lavato were the top finishers.
The WISSOTA Modified feature got off to a shaky start as pole sitter Clint Larson was deemed to have jumped the start and was set back to the second row. The next time was better with the now pole sitter Jodi Olson taking the lead only to spin in front of the field in turn four essentially giving Larson back his pole position. The restart saw outside front row starter Jeff Lien take the lead over Larson with sixth starting Jeff Wood threading the needle to grab third. Dave Mass and Darrell Nelson were fourth and fifth. The first of two caution flags flew when Nelson was bunted by Jason Miller and spun in turn one. Lien led at the green with Wood taking second from Larson as Nelson and Mass continued their battle. The final caution flew when Mark Johnson stalled on the front stretch. At the restart Wood got the jump on Lien and took the lead with Larson third. Nelson got inside Larson for third then took second from Lien as wood swept across the finish line for the win. Lien, Larson and Mass finished in that order.
It took three tries to get a full lap in in the WISSOTA Super Stock 15 lap feature. Rick Rivord started on the pole and had to fend off Jay Kuras, John Copp, Ryan Aho and Scott Lawrence in the early going. It soon became apparent that the bottom groove was going to be the only way around. Lawrence tried his favorite high side but there was nothing there, by the time he was able to get back in line there he was 9th and was not a factor the rest of the way. Rivord held off Kuras for his second straight feature win at the speedway. Aho, Copp and Dave Mass finished in that order.
Rob Monahan won the Pure Stock feature from the outside of the front row after a battle with Tim Carlson for several laps. Carlson faded in the waning laps to finish 8th. Jim McClellan finished second while Stacy McKinnon drove a steady race from 8th to finish third. Rick Wilhelm and Scott Larsen rounded out the top five.
