McMANN GRABS FIRST LATE MODEL FEATURE OF THE SEASON
Rain Wins The Rest Of The Events

By Jerry O'Brien
(May 29, 2005)

The third time was the charm for the Proctor Speedway...almost! Pouring rain early in the afternoon and the threat of more on the way put the third attempt to run the 2005 opening day in jeopardy. The rains held off and the pits filled with cars as a sizeable crowd filtered in. 138 cars in five divisions competed for starting spots in the feature events but Mother Nature would decree that only a single feature event would be completed before the dreaded rain reappeared.

18 cars lined up for the 20 lap feature event with Aaron Lillo and John Massingill leading the pack. At the green flag Massingill bolted to the lead as Tim McMann overwhelmed Lillo to grab second trailed by Darin Meierotto and Mike Meger. Meierotto moved up to battle wheel to wheel with Lillo for third and soon overtook the young second generation drive for third. Battling for fifth were Kelly Estey. Meger and Tom Waseleski. While this skirmish was going on, McMann closed up on Massingill and slipped by to take a lead he would not relinquish. Meierotto made his way to third, then scooted past Massingill for second. Meierotto set out to chase down McMann as the top three pulled out a sizeable lead over the battle between Lillo and Waseleski for fourth, a battle that Waseleski was able to win just as the crossed flags signaled half way.

Meierotto closed quickly on McMann as McMann surveyed the back of the field. McMann held on for the win over Meierotto as Waseleski cleared Massingill for third only to lose the position as Massingill stormed back. Rounding out the top five behind McMann was Meierotto, Massingill, Waseleski and Caley Emerson. With the WISSOTA Modified feature circulating around the speedway, the rains came and washed out the rest of the program.

Next Sunday June 5th racing will begin one hour early with hot laps at 4 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m. The remaining four features will be run first with a complete five class program to follow.
