CRYDERMAN TAKES PROCTOR LATE MODEL CASH
Lavato, Campbell Win First Career Features
By Jerry O'Brien - 06/26/2005
Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay Ontario dropped in on the
Proctor Speedway and swept the action in the WISSOTA Late Models
division with a heat win and a victory in the 20 lap main event.
The early lead was taken by Jeff Provinzino from the outside of
the front row with pole sitter Darrell Nelson slipping into
second as Cryderman, John Massingill ans Tim McMann followed.
Provinzino went sideways in turn two and Nelson could not avoid
piling into him as Massingill spun to avoid the pileup and
Cryderman shot through on the bottom. Provinzino was sent to the
rear and apparently elected not to continue while Nelson
attempted a restart missing the entire nose piece but soon
dropped out.
The wreck left Massingill at the point leading Cryderman,
McMann Harry Hanson and Kelly Estey. Massingill led for a couple
of laps but Cryderman took command with Harry Hanson through
into second, McMann was third and Massingill fourth as Tom
Nesbitt slipped into the top five from his 12th starting spot.
The final caution flag flew for a tangle in the fourth turn
involving George Ledin, Aaron Lillo and Carter Gerlach with
Gerlach charged with the foul. At the green Cryderman fought off
a charge by Hanson and McMann ans pulled away by about ten car
lengths to take the win with Hanson, McMann, Nesbitt and
Massingill in the top five.
Darrell Nelson redrew the outside of the front row and was
looking for a better showing in the Modified than he had in the
WISSOTA Modified main event as he paced the field with pole
sitter Rod Heitala. Nelson took the lead over Duane Dale with
Jeff Wood, Matt Sorenson and Heitala who were three wide for
third. Sorenson won the battle but it was a temporary thing as
Kelly Estey who had started inside of the third row roared into
third along with Jason Miller. Sorenson was fifth and Don Copp
had moved from 11th to sixth. Nelson pulled away to a straight
away lead but the field was brought back to his bumper when
Heitala spun in turn three just as Copp's run ended and he
dropped into the pits. At the green Nelson led Dale with Estey
third, Miller fourth and Sorenson fifth. The final caution flag
appeared when Sorenson's run ended with a spin and stall at the
exit of turn four. With few laps remaining, Nelson led at the
green flag with Estey to second and gaining as Miller got by
Dale for fourth. Both closed on Nelson but it was too little too
late as nelson won for the first time this season over Esty
Miller, Dale and Jody Bellefeuille.
Jim Campbell has been racing WISSOTA Super Stocks for five
years and finally made it to the winners circle as he topped a
stout field for his first career win. Campbell turned his pole
position into the winning position as he took off at the green
flag and led wire to wire in the caution free run. Donnie
Lofdahl, Tim johnson, Destin Lorimor and Jeff Tardy tried their
best to fit four wide for second for a couple of laps until
Lofdahl was forced off turn four and lost several spots. Further
back WISSOTA National point leader Ryan Aho and arch rival Scott
Lawrence who had started in the sixth row were marching toward
the front and were in sixth and eighth. As Campbell ran away
from the field, Tardy settled into second with Johnson third and
Lorimor fourth. Aho got Lorimor for fourth and Lawrence had to
settle for sixth as Campbell took the win.
Justin Jones the WISSOTA National point leader grabbed the
early lead from the pole over Riley Mathews, Greg Chesly, Nick
Lavato and Miles Weske. Jones pulled out to a strong lead with
Chesley and the pair of nines, Lavato and Mathews giving chase
as Al Kiminki eased into fifth. The half way point was quickly
reached with Jones in command and leading Chesley, Lavato,
Mathews and a fast moving Monte Hall who was up from 12th to
fifth. Also making a strong move was Willie Thompson who had
started 17th and was up to 7th. Jones looked to be on his way to
an easy win but the scenario quickly changed when Jim Lowinski
looped in turn two bringing out the caution flag. At the restart
Lavato got a great jump and sailed past Chesley and Jones into
the lead. This didn't last as next time by Weske, who appeared
to have handling problems, spun in turn four bringing out the
yellow flag and putting Lavato back to third. At the green
Chesley got the jump on Jones but Lavato also got a great
restart and the three battled down the back stretch and by the
white flag. Lavato was able to get his first win over Chesley
and Jones as Hall and Thompson finished in the top five.
Skeeter Estey took the lead in the Pure Stock feature over
Nick Baker, Rob Monahan and Jon McKinnon fifth. McKinnon, who
had just returned to racing after a year off, was on a mission
and quickly took the lead on the second go round with Estey five
car lengths behind and five car lengths ahead of Baker and
Monahan. The first caution flag flew for a bumper on the race
track and at the half way point McKinnon led Estey, Baker and
Dustin Lunde. At lap 12 of 15 Monahan and Lunde hooked up and
both spun. Monahan was sent to the rear and Lunde was restore to
his spot. McKinnon was comfortably in the lead as Lunde and
Estey battled for second . McKinnon took the win while Lunde
edged Estey for second. Point leader Jim McClellan was fourth
and Cheryl Deloach was fifth.
