CRYDERMAN, CAMPBELL REPEAT WINNERS AT PROCTOR SPEEDWAY
By Jerry O'Brien

Joel
Cryderman of Thunder Bay Ontario made it two wins in three
nights as he repeated his win at the Proctor Speedway to make it
two wins in a row. The 20 lap feature got off to a rocky start
as Kelly Estey was apparently boosted from behind into a wild
spin down the front stretch ending up against some advertising
signs down toward the first turn. When the field was lined back
up in original order, Jeff Provinzino was on the pole with
Cryderman right beside him. That was as close to the lead as
Provinzino would get as Cryderman rocketed to the front and
began to extend his lead. George Ledin and Bob Broking followed
but it was Harry Hanson who was on the move racing from seventh
to fourth immediately. John Carpenter spun in turn two for the
first and only caution flag.
At the green flag Cryderman maintained the lead as
Provinzino's passing attempt fell short. Hanson was now third
but some distance back from the leaders as further back ninth
starting Tom Nesbitt and 11th starting Darrell Nelson were fifth
and sixth. Nelson annexed fourth but Broking fought back to take
fifth at the checkered flag. Provinzino was able to close up on
Cryderman in traffic but was unable to gain enough ground to
challenge for the win. It was the second straight sweep for
Cryderman at the speedway.
Jeff
Lien drew the pole for the WISSOTA Modified feature and scooted
out to an early lead but Kelly estey quickly moved from the
second row into the runner up spot ahead of Tyler Hynnes, Jeff
Wood and the battle for fifth between Duane Dale and Jody
Bellefeuille for fifth. Charging toward the front was Darrell
Nelson from his eight starting spot. The half way point in the
15 lap feature was quickly reached with Estey on cruise control
and extending his lead. The only caution flag of the event
brought the field to Estey's bumper but to no avail as Estey
drove off to the win over Lien, Wood, Nelson and Dale.
Jim
Campbell shot around the scramble at the front at the start of
the 15 lap WISSOTA Super Stock feature from his sixth starting
spot. The usual contenders started deep in the field with point
leader Ryan Aho and Scott Lawrence starting outside of the fifth
and sixth rows respectively. It took little time for Aho to wade
through the field and was quickly into second attempting to
track down Campbell. Newcomer Dennis German spun in turn one
bringing out the first caution.
At the green flag it was Campbell, Aho, outside pole sitter
Steve Estey, Donnie Lofdahl and Kyle Peterlin with Lawrence in
sixth, Mike Bellefeuille seventh and Rick Simpson from 21st to
eighth. All eyes were on the battle between leader Campbell and
Aho as the battled for the win. The two came off the fourth turn
in a rubbing and banging dash for the checkered flag with
Campbell edging Aho at the line by a slim margin. Peterlin,
Lawrence and Lofdahl rounded out the top five.
The
Midwest Modified 15 lap feature got off to a lame start and it
was the car of Shawn Ziells that was lame shredding a right rear
tire in close quarters on the back stretch leaving debris
littering the racing surface. At the start it was pole sitter
Dick Walters with the lead but Monte Hall shot from the outside
of the fourth row into second and began to pressure Walters.
National point leader Justin Jones was also utilizing the high
side moving quickly from the inside of row four following Hall
into third. Hall soon was able to dispose of Walters and cruise
to the win in the caution free event. Walters, Jones, Greg
Chesley and Willie Thompson finished in the top five.
It
looked as though the Pure Stock feature would possibly go flag
to flag but the only flag seen was the red one as Dustin Follett
got off the top of turn two and rolled several times. Follet was
uninjured. At the green flag Jon McKinnon quickly moved from the
inside of the third row to the lead with Al Rapp following on up
into second. It quickly became apparent that McKinnon and Rapp
would drive off and settle it for themselves. Perhaps it was
inevitable, but Rapp and McKinnon clashed with Rapp who spun in
turn four. McKinnon was sent to the rear and Rapp was able to
take his first win of the season at the speedway. Jim McClellan
moved up from the 11th starting spot to take second over Lou
Meglen, Glen Dammer and Ricky Davis.
Rick
Lepinski of Hudson, WI was the winner in the Vintage Cars
special event.
