PROVINZINO LEADS EVERY LAP FOR PROCTOR LATE MODEL WIN
By Jerry O'Brien

Jeff Provinzino used his pole position start to the maximum
advantage as he jumped to the lead at the green flag and led
all 20 circuits for his first WISSOTA Fon Du Luth Late Model
victory of the season. Joel Cryderman who had won back to back
features the previous two Sundays, was trying his best to make
it three straight moving to the second spot from the outside
of row two but could not quite make up enough ground to
challenge Provinzino for the lead and had to settle for runner
up money. Jeff Broking had an extremely strong race coming
from seventh to third while Darrell Nelson made his way
forward from ninth to fourth while Bob Slater started fifth,
hung around there all 20 laps and finished fifth.
Darrell Nelson got a great start in the WISSOTA Modified
main event using a strong inside move from the second row but
to no avail as a six car pileup in the first turn eliminated
the car of Nelson's chief rival Kelly Estey. Pole sitter Clint
Larson was sent to the rear of the 14 car field for causing
the incident. The second try for a start was no better as Jad
Carlson looped in turn one. The third try was the charm as
Nelson led off again with Jeff Wood, Jeff Lien, Duane Dale and
a fast moving Larson battling for several laps to see who
would break free to challenge Nelson. Lien finally won that
battle and set off in pursuit. At the half way point it was
Nelson way out in front with Lien trying to cut down the
distance. Wood, Jeff Hart, Dale and Jayme Lautigar were in the
top five while Larson had made his way to seventh.
As the laps diminished toward the finish, Lien caught
Nelson and the two pulled away by a straight away from third
place Jeff Wood. Lien Edged closer to Nelson's back bumper and
took several looks to the inside but could not muster enough
steam to make the try. Nelson went on to win his second
feature in three weeks as Lien had his best finish of the
season in second. Wood, Dale and Hart rounded out the top five
with Larson able to make it to sixth.
Scott Lawrence was out to make it three feature wins over
the weekend as he had already won twice since Friday night.
Lawrence drew the inside of the third row and waited for his
opening on the inside of turn two on lap two as he dived
through to take the lead across the back stretch. Following
behind were Kyle Peterlin, Rick Simpson and Destin Lorimor.
The action was slowed when Adam Long was turned around in turn
four. During the caution period two time feature winner Jim
Campbell stalled on the back stretch and was out of the event.
At the half way point Lawrence led Peterlin, Simpson, Ryan Aho
and Lorimor. At the white flag Aho made the move to second but
it was too little too late as Lawrence led fourteen of fifteen
laps for his third consecutive win over the weekend.
After a caution flag on the opening lap the WISSOTA Midwest
Modified 15 lap feature went all the way without another
stoppage. Justin Jones made his move from the second row and
led to the finish. Behind Jones the battling was fierce as it
was sometimes three wide for positions. Jones led pole sitter
Loren Inman and Mark Kangas at the mid point as Greg Chesley
and 2004 track champion Dan Wheeler who was making his first
appearance of the season were moving through the field but the
Onamia, MN driver was too strong for them crossing under the
checkered flags for his second feature win of the season at
the speedway. Loren Inman, Chesley, Kangas and Nick Lavato
rounded out the top five. Al Rapp was looking for his second
straight feature win at Proctor in the Pure Stock division and
second of the weekend, but "Mr Smooth" Jon McKinnon
had other ideas as it was he who would get his second feature
win of the season. McKinnon pulled out to a commanding lead
leaving the battle for second to Skeeter Estey, Rapp and Jim
McClellan with Jason Ziells hanging around in the top five.
Jesse Ogston brought out the only caution flag of the event
with a spin and stall on the back stretch. The restart saw
McKinnon pull away to the win over Rapp, Alan Price, McKinnon
and Estey.
