PROVINZINO DOMINATES PROCTOR LATE MODELS
By Jerry O'Brien
6-11-06
Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing dominated the
20 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature after grabbing
the lead early on in the event. Pole sitter Aaron Lillo was the
class of the field at the beginning as he ran away from the
pack. Provinzino was moving forward and was third from sixth
behind Jeff Broking who was third. Lillo continued out front but
Provinzino soon took over the lead and at the midpoint led
Lillo, Broking, Harry Hanson, and Danny Young in the top five.
Provinzino raced off to a huge lead but a lap 14 caution flag
closed up the field. Again Provinzino regained his big lead
after the restart widening it to a straight away over the battle
for second between Lillo, Broking, Nelson, Hanson and Caley
Emerson. Provinzino went on to take his second win of the season
at the speedway over Broking, Lillo, Hanson from 10th and
Emerson in the top five.
Five caution flags slowed up the 20 lap
WISSOTA Modified feature, but in the end it was veteran Don Copp
who took the checkered flag racing his way forward from the
sixth row for the win. Jody Bellefeuille started from the
outside of the front row and was impressive early on leading
Kelly Estey, Shane Sabraski and pole starter Paul Schultz to
just past the half way mark when lapped traffic proved to be his
downfall as he slid off the track trying to find his way through
leaving Estey to pace the field. Bellefeuille was sent to the
rear and managed to work his way back to 13th at the finish.
Copp was in third by this point and at the green flag swept
around Estey on the high side for the lead which he held to the
end. Estey, Sabraski, Justin Jones from 8th and Darrell Nelson
also from the sixth row, rounded out the top five.
The Super Stock feature was truncated when
the time limit ran out after perhaps five laps as five caution
flags left several crippled cars headed for the pits. Front row
starter Dave Mass held on to the lead through the caution
periods but the few laps run were enough for Ryan Aho to come
from the sixth row to second. Mass was declared the winner after
a green/white/checkered finish was declared. Tim Johnson, Sam
Skalsky and Peter Jokinen finished in the top five.
Mark Kangas returned to the Proctor
Victory Lane for the second time this season coming through from
the sixth row to take the win in the 20 lap WISSOTA Midwest
Modified feature. Shane Sabraski who was making his first
appearance of the season of the speedway finished second while
Nick Lavato followed Kangas forward from row six winding up
third ahead of D J Severin in fourth and rookie Jesse Ogston in
fifth.
Proctor Pure Stock point leader Rick Kesty
found his way from the sixth row to take his second feature win
of the season. It looked as though Allen Price might hang on to
win his first career feature but Kesty would have none of that
as he took the lead late in the event and pulled away to the
win. A single caution flag marred the event when Ricky Davis and
Rick Cornelison clashed in turn two. Davis, who had slashed his
way through the field from the fifth row to run third in search
of his third feature win at the speedway, lost his back bumper
and perhaps cut a tire as he pitted returning to tag onto the
back of the field to finish 13th. Jon McKinnon, Tony Ciurleo
from 9th, Price and Tom Morinville from 13th finished in the
front five.
