BROKING BEST IN WISSOTA LATE MODEL FEATURE
By Jerry O'Brien

Jeff Massingill led the initial circuit of the WISSOTA 20 lap Late Model feature Sunday night at the Proctor Speedway, but it was Jeff Broking who assumed the point on lap two and led the rest of the way despite an early caution flag when John Massingill went off turn four and a red flag condition when Jeff Provinzino and Darin Meierotto got together resulting in Meierotto sailing off turn one sideways across the exit road where he rolled onto his top in the tall grass. Meierotto was uninjured but his car was heavily damaged. At the green flag Jeff Massingill led the first lap but Broking took over and had little trouble taking his first win of the season at the speedway. Harry Hanson who had won two consecutive features made a run at Broking after clearing the pack with five laps remaining. Tom Waseleski, Sr slipped past Massingill for third while Darrell Nelson rounded out the top five.

John Reini jumped to the initial lead in the WISSOTA Modified feature but it was Matt Sorenson who rocketed to the front two laps into the 20 lap race. The first of two caution flags flew shortly thereafter for a stalled Duane Dale who then rushed into the pits for service and rejoined the pack to finish 9th. Don Copp was charging to the front mid pack and challenged Sorenson for the lead pulling ahead by a half car length. Copp suddenly faltered and pulled into the infield with mechanical problems. Sorenson continued to head the field until the final caution flag flew for Jad Carlson who spun off the top of turn four. At this point Kelly Estey had moved up to second to battle Sorenson and worked his way into the lead at the mid point. From there Estey drove away to the win. Jeff Wood and Darrell Nelson got by Sorenson into second and third near the finish. Sorenson held on for fourth while Justin Jones rounded out the top five.

Scott Lawrence took a couple of weeks off to spend time with his family and returned rejuvenated Sunday night as he took the lead on the second of 20 laps, then held off Ryan Aho for the win. Donnie Lofdahl took the lead form the outside pole over Tom Treviranus but the first of three caution flags for an Art Hyde spin gave Treviranus a shot and he took the lead over Lawrence, Lofdahl Robbie Cooper Eric Nelson and Josh Anderson. Lawrence shot into the lead but the second caution flag quickly appeared when Cooper lost control and bunted Steve Estey into the infield off turn four. Lawrence quickly widened his lead on the restart over Treviranus, Aho, Lofdahl and Cooper. The third caution flag flew when Lofdahl was bunted off turn four by Treviranus. Lofdahl regained his position only to bring out the final caution when he and Jay Kuras collided forcing Kuras off into the second turn ditch. All of these caution flags came within the first few laps. At the half way point Lawrence led Aho, Nelson and Jeff Tardy. Lawrence held off Aho for the win over the final five laps with Tardy, Nelson and Kyle Peterlin who had used a caution period to duck into the pits, restarted last and worked his way up to a top five finish.

Mark Kangas won his first Midwest Modified feature since June 11thas he grabbed the lead from Rod Hietala after a first lap caution flag and led the 20 lap event the rest of the way besting Greg Chesley for the win. Two more caution flags slowed the action but each time Kangas was able to maintain the lead. Jimmy Latvala continued his strong return to competition working his way to second from the fourth row only to fall out with 11 laps in the books. From there Kangas held off Chesley the rest of the way. Point leader Nick Lavato finished third after starting ninth while Wayne Engen and Rod Hietala finished in the top five.

Jon McKinnon topped the Pure Stock 15 lap feature leading the entire distance from his pole starting spot over Tony Ciurleo and Isaac Hudson. Troy Wiseth finished third only to be disqualified at the scales. Al Rapp and Pete Ciurleo finished in the top five. Results
