CASEY, CRYDERMAN KNOCK OFF TWIN PORTS TWIN 25'S FEATURES
By Jerry O'Brien

Terry Casey of New London WI and Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay Ontario each won a 25 lap feature Sunday night at the Proctor Speedway during the second annual Twin Ports Twin 25's sponsored by AMSOIL and presented by Powers and Associates Optometrists. Each driver took home $1500 for the win.

Casey demolished the 24 car field in the first 25 lap feature. John Kannta started on the pole and led the first two circuits but Casey motored on by and disappeared into lapped traffic quickly. Despite finding himself in heavy traffic Casey showed patience in clearing them putting them between himself and Joey Jensen who had taken over the runner up spot. Jensen was the winner of first feature in the inaugural Twin 25's in 2005. Case raced to a domination win with ease as jensen never got close enough to mount a challenge the 25 laps went by without a hitch flag to flag. Duane Mahder beat out son Chad for third place and Pat Doar raced up from 13th to round out the top five. Kaanta held off Tom Waseleski, Sr for sixth with Joel Cryderman eighth, Steve Laursen ninth and Mitch Johnson rounding out the top ten. Casey took home the trophy and the $1500 for the win. There was a hard charger award of $100 put up by Brian Harr of On the Edge Graphics and it went to Harry Hanson of Eveleth, MN who advanced nine positions form 22nd to 13th

Prior to the second 25 lap feature it fell to Casey to select one of several frisbies on the front stretch to determine the number of cars to be inverted in the second feature. Casey picked 11 which meant he started 11th in the second event.

Jeff Hinkemeyer and Mitch Johnson started the second 25 lap feature from the front row. Hinkemeyer led the first circuit but Johnson sailed around on the outside and took over the lead the next time by. Johnson held off several cars who took over second place through two caution flags, the first for Joey Jensen who slipped off turn one and the second for Aaron Lillo and Tom Waseleski, Jr who tangled in turn two.

Hinkemeyer remained in the second spot while further back Joel Cryderman and Steve Laursen battled for third ahead of Waseleski, Sr, Pat Doar and Duane Mahder. Cryderman broke free and overhauled Hinkemeyer for second. The third and final caution flag appeared and it was what Cryderman was looking for as he was now on Johnson’s bumper for the restart. With 16 laps remaining, Cryderman got the jump on Johnson and grabbed the lead while Duane Mahder also got by Johnson into third. Chad Mahder was on the move also and got by Doar and Laursen into fourth. Cryderman had a substantial lead over Johnson as Chad Mahder passed Duane Mahder to move into third. With five laps to go Chad Mahder passed Johnson for second and began to make serious inroads into Cryderman’s lead. Cryderman hung on for the win by mere feet at the line at the checkered flag. Chad Mahder was second, Johnson third Hinkemeyer fourth and Duane Mahder fifth. Doar had a solid run to finish sixth over Laursen in seventh, Waseleski, Sr in eighth, John Kaanta ninth and Jeff Broking tenth.

There was a bonus of $500 for the driver who had the best average finish for both features and Chad Mahder won that with a fourth and a second.

Greg Chesley of Duluth started the 20 lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature from outside the fourth row, tracked down early leader Nick Lavato to get by for the win. Randy vezina led the intiial circuit from the pole but Monty Hall slipped by to lead the next couple of circuits as Vezina dropped from competition. Lavato was on the move from the fourth row and worked his way to second closing on Hall. Greg Chesley came along with Lavato from the fourth row and it broke down to a battle between Hall, Lavato and Chesley for the lead which Lavato was able to secure. A lap later officials discovered that Vezina had not been able to make it to the pits and was stalled bringing out the only caution flag. At the green flag it was Lavato hugging the low line while Chesley flew around the top gaining on him until he nipped by for the lead at the line. Hall was third with Tom Smart, Wayne Engen from the B Feature, Deven Van House, Jeff Marshall, Chad Larson and Mark Kangas trailing. Chesley went on to take the win over Lavato with Smart third, Engen fourth and hall fifth.

Ricky Davis swept the action in the Pure Stocks with a heat win to go along with his third feature win of the season. With the win and point leader going in Tom Morinville’s DNF, Davis takes over the point lead. Saturday night he also took over the point lead at the BC Raceway in Ashland. Davis started the 15 lap feature from the pole and never looked back leading every lap for the win. Tony Ciurleo tried to amke a race of it and managed to get within a couple of car lengths toward the end but Davis pulled away slightly on the white flag lap and took the checkered flag first. Ciurleo finished second in the non stop event with Glen Dammer, Mark Carlson and Dan Larsen rounding out the top five.

Greg Parent of GRP Motorsports and Powers along with several other business and individuals started a non qualifiers fund for drivers who did not qualify for the feature events. With 36 cars on hand and 24 starting the features, each non qualified driver was awarded $291 after the fund was split evenly amongst them.

On The Edge Graphics also sponsored the hard charger award in each feature. Harry Hanson of Eveleth was the winner of $100. Hanson started 22nd and finished 13th. Ron Schreiner, Hudson, WI was the hard charger in the second 25 lap feature starting 20th and finishing 12th.

There was also a $500 bonus for the driver with the best average finish in each feature offered by Powers & Associates. Winning that bonus was Chad Mahder of Eau Claire who finished fourth in the first feature and second in the second feature.
