PROVINZINO TOPS PROCTOR SPEEDWAY LATE MODELS

Befera Nabs First Career Super Stock Feature

By Jerry O'Brien 6-15-08 Proctor, MN

Jeff Provinzino of Hibbung, Mn won the 25 lap WISSOTA AMSOIL Dirt Car Series Late

Model feature Sunday night June 15 at the Proctor Speedway. Despite numerous caution flags

Provinzino managed to keep the #28 out ahead of the 22 car field the entire distance, starting

from the pole Provinzino sailed off the high side to take the lead over Jason Miller, Caley

Emerson, Kyle Peterlin and Darrell Nelson. Peterlin zipped into third as Miller chased

Provinzino who was pulling away. Harry Hanson got a run of turn two and shot past both Nelson

and Peterlin. The first caution flag flew when Scott Meeds spun in turn two with eight laps

complete bringing Miller to Provinzino's bumper erasing Hanson's advantage. There was a

problem on the restart as Peterlin was forced into the front stretch wall ending up hard into the

tire barrier. Peterlin was done for the evening as the green flag appeared but the start was aborted

for a six car pileup exiting turn four. All cars drove away from the incident and the next time

should have been the charm but wasn't as John Massingill's #6 slowed. At the half way point

Provinzino led Nelson, Hanson, Kelly Estey, Miller and Don Copp who had worked his way

from the outside of row six to run fifth. At this point most of the cars were using the high groove

with only Estey of the front runners trying to gain ground on the low side. Once agin the yellow

flag appeared when tenth running George Ledin slid off turn one. On the restart Nelson got a

great jump on Provinzino and nearly got past but Provinzino threw a block and held him off. One

more caution caused by Meeds' second spin slowed the action. Provinzino was able to hold on

for the final laps to sweep the action. Nelson, Hanson, Estey and Copp finished in the top five.

Frank Befera won his first ever WISSOTA Super Stock main event with a strong run from the

pole holding off a strong challenge in the closing circuits of the 20 lap feature by Jeremy Fink.

Fink had started deep in the pack from the outside of the sixth row. At the green flag Jay Kuras

grabbed the point from the outside of the front row with Befera, donnie Lofdahl, Steve Estey and

Scott Lawrence running tin the top five. Just as Befera made a move to the lead Kevin Salin spun

in turn one. The restart came with 17 circuits remaining and Kuras slipped exiting high in turn

two letting Befera past with Estey second followed by Lawrence, Lofdahl and Jeff Tardy who

had moved up from row five to run fifth. Estey was all over Befera but could not find a way past.

At the ten lap mark Befera led Estey, a fast moving Fink, Tardy and Lawrence while Jeff Ruzich,

Lofdahl, Kevin Eder, Mike Bellefeuille and Andy Grymala ran in the top ten. With two laps

remaining Estey made a run at Befera but couldn't make the pass as Befera held on for his first

career victory.

It was to be a 20 lap main event for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds with Deven VanHouse

and rookie Lance Solem on the front row. VanHouse took the lead immediately but Adam Archer

blazed forward from the second row and took over the point Skeeter Estey followed him through

and the two battled wheel to wheel just as they had in their heat race. VanHouse, Jesse Ogston

and Monty Hall ran in the top five. The caution flag flew for the only time in the event when

Andrew Inman spun in turn four. At the green flag the tight battle between Archer and Estey

resumed with Ogston third then Solem and Greg Chesley up from the fifth row into the top five.

Archer had about a car length on Estey as Chesley made a charge past Ogston then Estey but fell

short in his bid for the win. It was a sweep for Archer and his first win of the season at the

speedway. Solem faded to seventh as Taylor Leuthner fresh off his first career feature win

Saturday night came home in fifth.

Jad Carlson held a brief first lap lead in the WISSOTA Modified feature before Jody

Bellefeuille got through to lead followed by Justin Jones. Duane Dale slipped into third and

Kelly Estey ran fourth when the caution flag appeared for the stalled car of Shaun Kreyer. At the

green Jones sailed to the top groove and grabbed the lead with Dale taking over the runner up

spot. Bellefeuille, Estey and Ryan Aho in the lead five. Jones extended his lead as the half way

mark was reached. Dale closed up on Jones while Aho and Bellefeuille dueled for fourth and

Estey began to make up some real estate on the front duo. Jones won the battle with Dale, Estey,

Aho and Bellefeuille finishing in the top five.

Al Rapp made it two wins in two days as he matched his Saturday night win in the Proctor

Pure Stock 15 lap feature. Jeff Christman jumped to the lead at the initial green flag with Rick

Cornelison, Tim Carlson and Dan Larsen trailing. Rapp and Jim Cooper dueled for fifth. Carlson

grabbed the lead as Rapp moved up to battle with Christman for second. With no caution flags

slowing the action the half way point was quickly reached. Rapp moved up to battle with Carlson

and the two went side by side until Rapp was able to pull ahead for the win.
